About the Venue

A National Historic Landmark built in 1912 — and the Carriage House morning light is still one of the best we work in.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is the most recognized wedding venue in Northeast Ohio — and the recognition is earned. Built between 1912 and 1915 by F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear Tire, the 65-room Tudor Revival manor sits on 70 acres of formal English gardens and sculpted grounds in Akron. "Stan Hywet" means stone quarry in Old English, a nod to the limestone quarried from the land itself. The estate is a National Historic Landmark and one of the largest private homes in the country.

Weddings at Stan Hywet can accommodate up to 175 guests in the Manor Hall, with outdoor tented receptions pushing that number past 200. Ceremony options include the English Garden, the Great Gatehouse, and the Manor House grounds — each with a completely different character and visual weight. There is no single "Stan Hywet look." There are several.

For getting ready, the upper level of the Carriage House serves as the bridal suite — historically detailed, quietly charming, and flooded with south- and east-facing morning window light that produces some of the best natural-light prep photography we've worked in. This is a venue where your morning photos are as good as your ceremony photos.

The MAVON Approach at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

What we know.
What we plan for.

Stan Hywet is 15 minutes from our Copley studio — one of our closest venues. We've been here. Here's exactly what you need to know about the morning logistics, the light, and what tends to go sideways when a team isn't prepared.

  • 01
The Carriage House morning light is genuinely exceptional
South- and east-facing windows on the Carriage House upper level mean you have warm, directional natural light through the full morning window. We don't need supplemental lighting for most prep work. The room produces beautiful photos on its own — and that matters, because your photographer will be in that room before the ceremony.
  • 02
15 minutes from Copley — our nearest Summit County venue
Stan Hywet is one of the closest major venues on our calendar. No extended early-departure window, no lengthy travel buffer in the pricing. We still arrive 15 minutes before our contracted start time and treat every Stan Hywet booking with the same precision as any other.
  • 03
Historic estate logistics — plan your load-in carefully
Vendor load-in is through the Carriage House, not the main Manor entrance. The estate staff is formal and protocol-conscious — this is a National Historic Landmark with preservation rules in place. Arrive on time, follow the coordinator's instructions, and don't attempt shortcuts. We communicate with the venue coordinator before every Stan Hywet booking to confirm our arrival window.
  • 04
Party size matters here more than at most venues
The Carriage House bridal suite comfortably accommodates up to 6 bridesmaids. If your party is larger, we strongly recommend reserving a suite at a downtown Akron hotel for overflow prep — either in the suite or completing styles off-site before arriving at the estate. Don't try to fit 10 people into a 6-person timeline in a 6-person room.
  • 05
This venue photographs at a level above nearly everything in Ohio
The English Garden, the manor's Gothic windows, the Gatehouse entry, the Carriage House interior — every space on this property has been designed with visual intention. The estate's layered architecture gives photographers multiple distinct backdrops within a short walk of each other. Plan time for portraits before and after the ceremony. The grounds reward it.

Frequently Asked

Questions brides ask
about Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens.

Do you travel to Stan Hywet from Copley?
Yes — and it's one of our shortest drives. Stan Hywet is approximately 15 minutes from our studio in Copley, about 7 miles. A standard travel fee applies for all on-location bookings, calculated at inquiry based on your party size.
How early can you arrive on the wedding morning?
We can begin as early as 6:00am. Start times before 7:00am carry an early-start fee. We build in a 15-minute buffer above our contracted start time regardless.
What is the Carriage House bridal suite like?
The upper level of the Carriage House is the designated bridal suite — historically detailed, warm in character, and filled with south- and east-facing natural window light through the morning. It's one of the best getting-ready spaces we work in. It comfortably fits up to 6 bridesmaids; larger parties should plan for supplemental space at a nearby hotel.
How many people can you style at Stan Hywet?
Our standard team handles 6–8 people within a typical morning window. For larger parties (9+), we bring a second stylist. If your party exceeds what the Carriage House suite can accommodate, we'll coordinate prep between the suite and a downtown Akron hotel.
Is a trial required?
Yes. We require a trial session for all full bridal bookings regardless of venue. Trials take place at our Copley studio, typically 4–8 weeks before your wedding date.
How far in advance should I inquire?
Stan Hywet is the most searched wedding venue in Northeast Ohio — dates fill quickly, and beauty vendors follow the same pattern. Once you've secured your Stan Hywet date, contact us immediately. We recommend reaching out 12–18 months in advance for peak season (May–October) bookings.
